It's a good collector's item

If you're looking for a how to draw book, this isn't the book for you. However, if you're a Don Bluth fan, and an aspiring animator this is a terrific book. This book is full of inspirational anecdotes, stories, and tips, than practical working knowledge. I'd recommend you get that the Preston Blair Animation book if you're looking to learn all that. However, I will say that Bluth goes deeper in to concepts of "timing" and "beats" and the art of story telling than Blair does (actually, Blair lacks the story telling chapters.)

This book also goes a bit in to story-boarding. Which for fans of Dragon's Lair makes this a really neat book, since it contains storyboards from an entire scene of the unmade DRAGON'S LAIR movie. I really wish it would get made someday. :(

All in all, it's a good book, a bit underwhelming (even as a fan, I can understand why it would sell for $5 and under here on Amazon), but a good purchase none the less.

Great Intro to animation

This is not so much a book on drawing as it is an introduction to the process of traditional animation. Written in a conversational style with plenty of illustrations, it contains amusing anecdotes and tidbits of wisdom from master animator and director Don Bluth. The model sheets and sketches have rarely been seen anywhere else, and the drawings as always are pure genius. I would recommend this book for anyone new to animation or Don Bluth Fans.

Motivation for animators

Im a Don Bluth fan since small age, and this book it feels like if he was really talking to you.
As an animator enthusiast, i really find this book inspiring. Its more like a motivation book than a textbook.
It explains really well the basics of animation and it also includes thins like the musical score and voice recording.
I really recommend it if you want to read something that its not just a animation textbook.

A Modern Classic

I saw a production of The Drawer Boy at Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago, Illinois starring John Mahoney (of Frasier fame), Frank Galati, and Johnny Galecki. The script is beautifully crafted, with a subtle and skillful coloring. The simple, truthful insights it provides into friendships with all their complexities are touching. I'd highly recommend this play to read, or better yet, watch.

Having read "Prophecy Key to the Future" many times, and watching the events of recent history unfold, I am amazed at how those events have followed closely to prophecy as outlined in Duane S. Crowther's book. Back in 1962, having used scriptures of prophetic substance, Mr. Crowther clearly spelled out what to expect and look for as signs of Jesus Christ's Second Coming at the beginning years of the new millennia. God's prophets give us a clear picture of the future of those of mankind that will not follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. Wo be to those, and Joy be to those who follow. Read this book with an open heart and you will not have to fear the many coming calamities still to be realized.
Excellent, must-read book for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), as they have the additional knowledge of the "Book of Mormon"'s prophetic scriptures, in addition to the King Jame's Version of the Holy Bible. I, as an LDS member, am looking forward to the future with no fear, as I am now able to see God's hand in orchestrating future events, in preparation for His Son's Second Coming!

This is an excellent book for reading as well as for reference. This is the third purchase of this book for me, having given this book to help people understand the things occurring around us. Crowther's interpretation and explanation of prophecies concerning these latter days are amazingly accurate and timeless and presented in a way to forwarn but not to frighten. A must for every LDS desiring to understand the prophecies of the last days.

The logistics approach to hazardous materials yields exponential benefits in costs and the reduction or elimination of such materials. It limits organizational liability and, at the same time, reduces the costs associated with hazardous waste management and disposal. Andrew Weil, one of America's best known advocates of alternative medicine and holistic healing, attended Harvard Medical School. He has worked for the National Institute of Mental Health and the Harvard Botanical Museum. Really Steven Gurgevich is why I purchased this audio CD - I had already lost 45 lbs. with a few other self-hypnosis tapes, but I had heard of him and wanted to check out a slightly more "clinical" methodology. I was vaguely familiar with Dr. Weil as the holistic practitioner on various TV programs, but all he really does is support the concept of medical hypnosis to relieve "real" medical problems. Still, the first CD was nice, it puts hypnosis in a positive light. Considering all the nonsense out there about hypnosis, the last thing I wanted was to purchase some kind of mysterious CD!

Gurgevich shows techniques on the 2nd tape on how to use hypnosis - well, actually, as he says, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis, so all you have to do is listen to the CD. I want to mention that I don't have any sickness or disease, but that was not my purpose of using the CD - I simply wanted to hear a different way of using hypnosis. And it worked..just like the other hypnosis CD's I had which also had nothing to do with losing weight, I continued to lose more weight on this CD! Now I have purchased many of Gurgevich's CD's including his "Self-Hypnosis Diet" and I learn new ways to go into trance state with each. If you're interested in working with your unconscious mind in order to attain specific goals, then hypnosis can be effective and Gurgevich is excellent at delivering the message!

Absolute Best Non-New Age Hypnosis/Meditation CD!

This CD set is the absolute best product on the market to train your brain on how to relax, sleep and literally change your perspective on living. There is nothing "new-age" about it. It is interesting, informative and ultimately effective. I have given this CD set to so many friends and relatives who have been amazed at the transformative effect it has. The first CD is a series of interesting conversations relating to the medical power and tested effectiveness of hypnosis. The second CD is the actual meditation sessions. DO NOT go straight to the meditations. First really learn about the power and science of medical hypnosis so that when you do the meditations your mind understands what is happening. Then you must do the meditations at least once per day for 30 days in order to train your mind and affect a change. I did them while laying in bed before sleeping and the results were amazing! These are ground-breaking CD's and are perfect for anyone who suffers from any type of stress, lack of sleep, worry/anxiety or who wants to improve their life without costly therapists, etc...

Good starter information

The lecture by Dr. Weil is excellent information on the dynamics and scientific work being done with medical hypnosis. The sessions with Dr. Gurgevich on Disc 2 were a review for me having already been trained as a hypnotherapist. Therefore, this is a CD I would only listen to once and/or refer to if trying to start someone else out with hypnosis. However, I did go to Dr. Gurgevich's website and order 4 of his CD's specific to some medical issues and impending surgery I am dealing with. Therefore, I do belive their information is accurate and effective.

Don't turn the page!

I wandered into the room of my best friend's three-year-old son, preparing to read him a book before he went to bed. When I saw this book among the pile on his floor, I got nostalgic. Really nostalgic. My mom read me the same book when I was his age, and I love, LOVE this book.
Not only does it teach you that sometimes the answer to all of your questions is right in front of you, but it does so by giving you pages of Grover, one of the most hysterical, lovable Muppets. The rattling of Grover's nerves, and the actual building of suspense in a picture book, keep the reader turning the book's pages -- even though Grover BEGS you not to do so. The reader is actually included in the narrative, for the book involves only Grover talking to the reader. The book thus becomes involving very quickly and entertaining throughout it.
Plus, the final punchline is a great payoff.
If you have children, this is an absolute must. Unlike other books from children's shows, this one's intelligent, maintains proper values and isn't beat-me-over-the-head annoying.

Destiny, Fate, and Self-Knowledge

_The Monster At The End Of This Book_ (henceforth "TMATEOTB") is a fascinating treatise on several of the philosophical problems lurking at the core of modern and classical thought. The premise -- that, with the turn of each page, the reader brings self-described "lovable, furry Grover" closer to danger at the hands of the title monster -- allows one to question the very nature of free will and destiny. Is Grover doomed to encounter the monster? The conceit that it is the act of turning pages -- the literal act of reading itself -- that causes the ending to come about inevitably leads to the question: Would the book end differently if one _didn't_ finish reading it? On another level, TMATEOTB addresses one of the paradoxes of contemporary physics: The equality of space and time. The "end of the book" is an event in the future, but the monster is not spoken of as "arriving", but as _already being there_. Thus, turning pages moves the reader and Grover not only forward in time, as in most traditional literature, but also forward in space, leading to the perilous End of the Book. Lastly, TMATEOTB is about how we are ultimately at the whim of the cosmic forces that shape our lives. The hapless protagonist tries again and again to stop the reader from turning pages by erecting brick walls and nailing one page to the other. His efforts are futile, but he remains unaware of his essential helplessness in the face of a Reader. Perhaps, the book says, we are ultimately doomed to fail, trapped within the pages of cosmic irony, but unable to prevent or even perceive the inevitability of our encounter with the monster. The shocking twist ending wraps up the disparate threads of the text, presenting issues of self-knowledge, the nature of fear, and the question of what it truly means to be a monster. Perhaps the failure of our quests for safety in an uncertain world isn't so bad, it argues, if it leads to a confrontation like the one depicted in _The Monster At The End Of This Book_.

Why did they have to add Elmo

As a child I read "Monster at the End of the Book" and loved it. My question is why did they have to write pretty much the same story and add Elmo. Must he poke his little red head into every aspect of Seasame Street there is. The story lost some of its suspence when he was added. The children in my class when I read the first book they were the ones pushing Grover through the story. In this one Elmo is pushing Grover along and not the children. If you are looking for a great book for your children pick the first one and leave Elmo out.

P.S I have read this with Early Childhood classrooms and Special Education.
