I love this book because I have no choice

I am both thrilled and honored to be the first to review this book! I have had my nose in it for two solid weeks at this point and there is sooo much information in it, my brain can barely take it. Much like the magnificent A&P book I had the pleasure of reading, this book is also huge, cumbersome, beautifully put together in terms of subject matter, and absolute torture to read. Sometimes when I'm reading, I pause to reflect that one day I'll look back on all this and laugh but for now, it puts the fun in fundamentals the same way it puts the lotion on it's skin. I particularly enjoy the questions at the end of each chapter that have two possible answers and it's up to me to decide. I always choose wrong so that needs work...but I have NO DOUBT that this book will continue to serve me even when I don't want it to. It truly is one of the best gifts you can give yourself. Sizes in this book run a little large so make sure you get yourself a huge bag to lug this nonsense around in.

I want to gouge my eyes out.

I hate my life. As I read through this skillfully mundane written book, I stop to wonder; why the hell did my professor pick this damn book. This book is so hard to read and absorb, let alone get you all worked up about nursing. I constantly have to go back and reread the sentence several times just to get what the author is trying to say. The words are all jumbled in there. I understand that it's hard to write a book (let alone a textbook), so I appreciate that the author did so for our benefit. BUT, this book is a total bummer. It doesn't flow easily and it's so "blah blah blah blah blah". Just think of a crap load of information crammed into a chapter, to which each chapter can run up to 20+ pages... front and back..... Good luck to those that have to read this book, I don't envy you at all.

I own the paperback version of this book and I must say it is very heavy and sometimes awkward to carry around. The book is not a hardcover and so it gets bent pages and the cover gets really beat up easily. With the kindle version you don't get the evolve website access, but honestly there isn't much to it. I get more out of online videos than this website. {[CELL PHONE Kindle] The kindle version has every page that is in the book. It is laid out in full pages and you are able to zoom in to be able to read it on a phone device. The kindle version allows you to tap the center of the page and then small preview pages are displayed at the bottom with the correct page number displayed to make pages easy to find. There is no chapter select, so knowing what page(s) you need will be a good thing or your going to be swiping from whatever chapter your on, back to the beginning. I don't find this an issue as I got the kindle in addition to the paperback. Highlighting, as far as I can tell, isn't available, but I can bookmark a page by using my phones menu key and access the bookmarks the same.} [COMPUTER Kindle: You can highlight, add notes, and there is even a content selector. You can even view the notes option to see what notes you have from throughout the book.]
Over all I'm pleased as I can read the kindle version anywhere and I don't have to lug the paperback tomb with me.
I only gave this four stars because it does not have a chapter selection in a regular menu the way smaller kindle books have.

If you don't know who Agrippa was, you shouldn't be reading this review, unless you're a librarian who's been asked to buy the volume. Do an author search for "Agrippa occult" and start there.
Now, assuming that you know who Agrippa (1486-1535) was, and roughly what his Occult Philosophy was, let's talk about this volume.
This is a scholarly critical edition. The copious annotations do not so much explain the text as tell you what Agrippa is quoting or referring to, so you can look up more texts. The introduction is functional, but not terribly helpful to the nonspecialist. On the other hand, when I wrote my book on Agrippa, this thing was a constant and trusty companion; boy am I ever glad I shelled out for this!
Agrippa's book itself is obscure and difficult, but at the same time it is the seminal attempt to develop a philosophical framework for magic as a practice. If you just want to read the book, read it in English (buy the Llewellyn edition) unless your Latin is stunningly good. So if you don't already know the book well, you shouldn't be spending money on this.
The editing is meticulous, including constant explications of Agrippa's many references and sources. There is a wonderful index and bibliography, making the volume exceptionally useful -- Agrippa himself is deliberately confusing and at times seems disorganized. On top of everything else, the editor has included angle braces and further notes so that we get a complete edition of the Juvenile Draft (1510) woven into the final edition (1531/33). I can't say enough good things about the edition.
Every library with a serious early modern collection should have this. Brill's books are extremely expensive, of course, but they are permanent. The paper is acid-free, the binding is very toughly stitched, and so forth. If you shell out for this text, you will still have it a long time from now. If you are not in control of a library's budget, though, you'd better try to get your librarian to order this.
In short, this is a volume for a library, a specialist, or a wealthy Latinist. If you are wealthy enough to afford this and just want a cool edition, bear in mind that you can sometimes find Agrippa's _Opera_ in early 17th C editions for about what this volume costs --- no critical material, of course, but pretty. If you have good reason to want a critical edition, though, this one is not likely to be superseded.

Finally a scholarly edition of this classic.

This book should be at the top of the reading list for anyone interested in Western occultism or magic.
The original Latin text of Agrippa's classic is presented along with critical apparatus clearly showing variant readings in the editions. Includes a great introduction (in English) with a detailed analysis of Agrippa's sources and as well as an insightful and in-depth analysis of Agrippa's extensive 1533 expansion and revision of the text. Complete with helpful bibliographies and indices.
The only disappointment I had was the fact that this edition does not include Agrippa's lengthy recantation, which was included in the 1533 edition.
This is one of the most expensive books I've ever bought, but worth the price, especially for those with a command of Renaissance Latin.

No holds barred survival guide to global natural or man made catastrophes.

The author describes the potential nightmare disasters that can destroy society as we know it, and how to survive not only the catastrophic events themselves, but also how to survive in the new and dangerous world that would emerge in the aftermath.

Dan Martin presents a number of global disaster scenarios,ranging from the readily plausible to the truly exotic. Far from dismissing even more fanciful sounding prophecies, the author considers them surprisingly realistic descriptions of world wide catastrophes of epic proportion. In all of the various societal destroying cases, Dan Martin recognizes that the general population will be completely unprepared, and chaos will be the immediate result. The author points to examples like Hurricane Katrina to demonstrate that governments will be unwilling or unable to provide the needed assistance for survivors. To prevent this lack of preparedness from endangering the lives of his readers and their families, the author shares many survival techniques ranging from the simple to the extreme.

For Dan Martin, the old rules of society will be replaced by a ruthless law of the jungle aftermath, where people will be forced to change how they think about life, property, and other people. The scenarios presented are frightening, and outside of the life experience of most people. As a result, Dan Martin offers some lessons in disaster survival, many of which will be repugnant to most readers. He offers those ideas to give people a rude awakening as to what a post-apocalyptic world will be like in no uncertain terms. The world as we know will have ended, and Dan Martin shares harsh lessons in extreme survival techniques and strategies.

For me, the power of the book is how Dan Martin provides realistic and plausible scenarios of global disasters that would end modern life as we know and understand it. The author describes with unflinching clarity the difficult and soul searching decisions that people will be forced by circumstances to make to ensure the survival of themselves and their families. It should be noted that not all of the survival strategies and tactics are ones that would appeal to most people The author provides a service to his readers in making them aware that other crisis survivors might not be as ethical as the readers of this book. On the other hand, Dan Martin provides some very useful strategies that can be employed in local disasters; along with the global society destroyers presented in this book.

I highly recommend the over sized and potentially life saving book Apocalypse: How to Survive a Global Crisis by Dan Martin, to anyone seeking a no holds barred survival guide to global natural or man made catastrophes. The techniques shared in this book may not be for everyone, but the author leaves no doubt that people would never know what they would do in the rubble of a destroyed world.

Excellent Survival Manual!!

This is a very comprehensive book which should be included in any school or library. It’s a valuable tool to reference if/when our society is met with a global challenge. I found it to be very helpful, especially the preparedness list and medical instructions. But I have to take issue with your argument that we will have to be prepared to protect our turf which may mean killing others to survive (which was a little too graphic for my taste, I must say!) Given the examples we’ve seen recently from the Boston Marathon bombing and even 9-11, the first instinct many people had, after they realized they were alright, was to help their fellow man—fight, not flight. Disasters seem to bring people, especially Americans, together, rather than turn them against each other. I’m sure there will be those who will flee and try to protect what’s theirs, but on the whole, I think man is more altruistic than you paint him to be.
I think in times of catastrophe, we try to reach out and help our brother than take from him. But I guess the book is talking about after a global catastrophe (hence the title!) where everything is gone and it’s a wasteland. Then we would probably revert to animalistic behavior to survive, that’s true. Let’s hope it never gets to that point. Anyway, the book is an excellent manual on survival. Good work! I hope I never have to use it.

Simply blown away is all I can say. two thumbs up, this book is riviting. I’m surprised they let you publish it in the U.S. with all our censorship. I don’t even know where to start. Any normal book this size would take the reader a couple weeks to read, I read it non-stop in 9 hours. I literally couldn’t put it down. From the religious and scientific based predictions, to current events worldwide to what the future holds. Truly breathtaking. I felt worn out afterwords, like excersizing while reading

Left leaning bias.

well, in a nutshell I would have to say there is significant leftist bias in the overall book. There are some chapters that are balanced and instruct the student as to what happened with different perspectives as to 'why' something happened. But overall the authors / editors allowed tremendous bias to flow throughout. A general example is that Nicaragua was on track with financial arrangements with The Soviets, Czechoslovakia and Cuba. No mention whatsoever to the encroachment of communism and US efforts to stop communism. It conveys to a reader nothing of that side of the events that occurred. We see this in other text books as well from time to time depending on the topics. If you have a left leaning (maybe even far left leaning) perspective you'll see no problems with the book.
