About the Author
Ira Greenberg directs the Center of Creative Computation and is Associate Professor with a joint appointment in the Meadows School of the Arts and Lyle School of Engineering at Southern Methodist University, Dallas TX. He is the author of Processing: Creative Coding and Computational Art and The Essential Guide to Processing for Flash Developers, both from friends of ED/Apress. Ira received his BFA from Cornell University and his MFA from the University of Pennsylvania.

Amazing.

I'd never heard of Stumpy Nubs before attending a woodworking show in September in Kansas City. I found his presentation to be the most interesting, entertaining and enjoyable of all those I attended. He actually brought his shop-made tools to the show and had them on display in the vendor marketplace. Seeing the tools in person only made Stumpy's ideas, and his skills, more impressive.

This book does an excellent job of describing 12 shop-made tools. Like most people who work wood I've knocked out a number of jigs over the years but Stumpy takes things to a level I'd never imagined. The amount of thought put into the details make his tools accurate and convenient. I think many readers will find at least one project (and quite probably more) they'll want to build.

Of course hearing Stumpy present his ideas in a live setting adds an element of humor and entertainment that no book could match. That's not a criticism of the book. It's an endorsement of attending one of his presentations.

Discovered Stumpy several months back on YouTube. Liked his fun approach and his ability to show you how-to for the novice without being too low or boring. Bought the book, just arrived today. Book is better than I anticipated. Not only was it a how-to do on making the machines he's covered on YouTube but he's included plans and measurements. Thx James!

This is a terrific book. While, I have numerous major power tools, I have gotten so much insight about these tools as well as inspiration to build my own. I think this is well worth the money!

About the Author
Klaus Bachmann, Professor of Political Science at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Warsaw (Poland), obtained a PhD in History from the University of Warsaw about the Polish-Ukrainian conflict in Galicia before World War I. Before his academic career, he was a media correspondent for German, Austrian and Swiss media in Poland, Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine.
Igor Lyubashenko is Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Warsaw. He obtained a PhD at the Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin for his thesis about the European Neighbourhood Policy towards Eastern European states. He is also a member of the editorial team of the Polish New Eastern Europe magazine.

Fantastic artbook for Disgaea fans

It's a 192-page paperback filled with illustrations from all four Disgaea games, namely Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories, Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice and Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten.

There are illustrations from all sorts of merchandise like game covers, books, soundtrack, other promotional materials and in-game illustrations as well. It's not a concept art book.

The art is beautiful, printed in mixture of sizes from quarter page to full page. It's shonen manga style with very pastel colours throughout. The bulk of art comes from Takehito Harada. However, there are many illustrations drawn by other artists who were not credited. The index page have info on where the art came from. The artist commentary appear for only three illustrations.

This book is translated by Udon from the original Japanese edition (isbn 4048706373) that was published in 2012. That book had mixed reviews, citing the lack of artist credits and duplication of work from other books such as Takehito Harada Art works (isbn 475806265X) and Disgaea 3 Official Design Works (isbn 4797351519). If you don't have those books, then it's not a concern.

If you like the Disgaea series and the style of art, this is a great buy.

Just Buy It ! ! !

Some people collect stamps, coins, baseball cards or comic books. I don't do that. Instead, I collect all the best art books. If you collect art books like I do I would say definitely buy this one. The artwork is just amazing!!! If I could give this more than 5 stars, I definitely would. This really is a "must have book"

I would recommend this to anyone reading this review. I also own almost all the other Udon Entertainment art books and I would like to take the time to recommend them all. In my opinion Udon is just the best of the best. I don't work for them. I don't get paid by them. I'm just a fan of their art books.

I would give it 5 stars, but...

The artwork in the book covers all the Disgaea games from the first to the most current one, Disgaea 4, though for some reason the sections are reversed (It goes 4 to 1 instead of 1 to 4) which is too bad, because it would have been nice to see the art on chronological order.

It's very enjoyable to look through, especially as a big fan of Disgaea. There where quite a few images I've never seen before. There is barely any commentary or captions to speak off. It's just the art for you to enjoy without any distractions.

The paper is nice and heavy, and all the illustrations are crisp and vibrant. The whole book feels like a high quality item. I have one gripe, however. I've experienced some ink rubbing off onto the opposite page. It's light, but definitely noticeable. This is especially noticeable when one page is light and the other dark. I've only had the book for a few days, so I hope it won't get any worse. This is the only reason for me not giving this artbook a 5 out of 5.

Dr. Serban Moldoveanu is Sr. Principal Scientist at R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. He also performed research on pyrolysis of a variety of polymers and small molecules. He has over 100 publications in peer reviewed journals, six books published with Elsevier, five books published with other publishers, and several chapter contributions to other books. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Analytical Methods in Chemistry.

Victor David, PhD, is a Professor and Head of the Department of Analytical Chemistry, University of Bucharest, Faculty of Chemistry. He is the author of more than 120 publications, including 92 scientific papers in ISI international journals and 10 books and chapters in various Encyclopedias. He is also a reviewer at several international journals.

Practical advice, advocates local labour, provides references

I bought this as a highly recommended book from someone who has restored an old house.
Now I know exactly what to do and in which order of priority to preserve the original look of my old home.
I particularly appreciated the reference section and advice on how to find local restoration workers in my area.
A bonus is the good humour of the author coming through in the reading; I loved the secret ingredient for the window cleaning recipe!

A must have if...

You are going to try to maintain the unique look and quality of vintage windows in your project structure. Well laid-out, easy to follow instruction on rehabilitating and modernizing these "eyes" of your home. I am certainly glad to have this book on the shelf as a reference for myself, and as a touchstone which I can call upon in order to help others understand my passion for maintaining the original look and feel of my projects.

This is a great book that fills in the "Working Windows" book's gaps. We recently restored our 1940s windows and it was essential in helping me figure out how to fix a sagging sash rail. Such a great resource -- looking forward to using the book when we move onto our next old house!

In the post 9/11 era, dance companies traveled to Asia and Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East.

Dancers as Diplomats, by Clare Croft offers a wonderful insight on the power dance holds in foreign policy. Dance and dancers are the main concern of this book, but also considers key policy events and changes about dance in diplomacy programming. It presents the possibilities of dialogue between nations and people to discover the realities that dancers display more than just movement. Despite DanceMotion performer’s political tensions experiences in Burma in a repressive regime their presence represented a triumph of international connection between American and Burmese governments. Hence, dancers are intriguing artistic vehicles and messengers of stories, communicating through inspirational expressions that can move people to feel the freedoms within themselves that may not exist in their country and oppression is their way of life. This is a great read for dancers and choreographers that may want to consider the art form and dancers as ambassadors of social change and justice.

Required reading...

When I teach students and entrepreneurs about the processes of how individuals come up with and pursue new venture opportunities, I have found this book invaluable. Most students and entrepreneurs approach venture creation with the notion in mind that all good ideas are able to acquire resources needed for idea survival and growth. However, what Markham and Mugge describe so eloquently is the actionable steps individuals can engage in that make it more likely that their innovative ideas will survive and grow. All good ideas do not get resources--it takes hard work, patience, and a framework. This book is required reading for anyone looking to implement an innovative idea, whether in a new venture context or existing company.

A great process is necessary for generating great outcomes; this book provides a great process

As policy developer, analyst, and instructor who focuses primarily on the macro environment for innovation (e.g., funding programs for R&D and commercialization, infrastructure support, tax policy, regulatory review), I greatly enjoyed the more micro-level focus of Traversing the Valley of Death. In particular, I was impressed by how much work over the years has gone into developing the book's comprehensive and detailed thought process and tools to guide both individuals and teams of innovators in large and small organizations. The methodology outlined in the book is clearly the result of considerable experience, including both successes and failures. It is a testament to the importance of a thoughtful, well-informed, thorough process for determining successful outcomes (even if conditions in the macro environment are favorable). An innovator can have the greatest idea in the world, but without a solid, tested set of steps for taking that innovation through the valleys and over the hurdles on the path to commercialization, most innovations don't get much farther than the starting blocks. This book provides the tools innovators need to complete and win the ongoing race to develop and implement new products that help grow the economy and improve our quality of life.

Bad fonts make Kindle version nearly unreadable

I'll update the review when/if I finish reading the book, but the Kindle version is horribly formatted. Am reading it on two different formats, one a brand new Samsung Note 5, and the other an old Galaxy Tab 7. In both cases the orientation is forced to landscape. This forces you to manually zoom in on every single page, and then you have to zoom out in order to turn the page. (See picture with my hand, that's the 7" tablet and it won't allow portrait orientation). But what really makes it hard to read text is some kind of font glitch which collapses many of the spaces in between words and even makes the end of one word overlap the beginning of another. (see other picture for sample) Someone needs to fix this as it makes what should otherwise be a fine book, very difficult to read. When the Kindle format is redone , and someone notifies me about it, then I will increase my rating.

Just what the doctor ordered

I bought this book so I would not miss any items of value, so I could catch them all, and so I could see what moves each Pokémon would learn because I would rather have a Pokémon learn all of its moves before it evolved since they typically learn those moved at earlier levels. I am not done beating the game at this point, but so far the book has not disappointed. I will say if there was one thing that I could change about the book it would be to include a list of all the moves, their type, what they do, how much power and accuracy, and how many pp they have. Like I said, though, no disappointments so far.

i use strategy guides mostly to track when a pokémon will acquire a new skill and sometimes for the maps. however...occasionally the write-up makes it sound as if the "one-of-a-kind" pokémon are really difficult to capture. for example, it said it would take 30 pokéballs to capture snorlax. i used TWO the first time i battled both of them. another example: 50 ULTRABALLS to capture articuno. i used FIVE after shutting my game off without saving it only once. another 50 ULTRABALLS to capture zapdos. i used ONE on my second try.
i hardly think i'm such a great strategic player that it's ME. so don't be scared like i was to go battle these pokémon, and don't waste your money like i did buying tons of pokéballs and expensive ultraballs until you've battled these rare pokémon a few times.

Super Fun, Kinda Cheating

I love this game, and really like not spending hours getting lost and not knowing what to do next. I always beat a game without the guide first, but when i go back for a second run i like to use one. It is well written, and the sequence is most reasonable. There are a few times it could have been more clear, but overall a solid strategy guide. It definitely showed me some things i was not aware of. I ordered a used copy and it was in great condition. Good luck and have fun!!!

Unique material, but error filled example problems

This book covers a lot of different processes and gives information about estimating their cost in a way that I have never seen anywhere else. That being said, the example problems are riddled with errors. I sent the publisher a 4 page single spaced list, but never heard back. Some errors are trivial and the correct answer can be intuited with engineering judgement. Other are major. For instance, a key table is missing from the powder metallurgy chapter, rendering cost estimation impossible. The authors sell cost estimation software based on their research. Perhaps they don't want anyone to be able to reproduce their results? For a manufacturing cost estimation class, there isn't a better book out there, but that's faint praise as there are really no competitors. It's adequate with careful reading.

What a waste of money. Mathematical Errors in every chapter.

This book was by far the Worst book I have ever had to use for any of my classes in my Masters program. It was poorly written and even worse, it had an abundance of mathematical errors that made me think the editing was the fault. Each chapter had at least... AT LEAST one mathematical error which in turn completely ruined this whole class for me. It was unfortunate because I truly wanted to learn in this class but when we were forced to use the equations out of the book that would differ from examples in the book, it was unclear on which equation to use. I feel that I studied tremendously for my tests from this book, but I learned the wrong thing. This definitely needs to be rewritten and reviewed at least 100 times before it is released again. What a waste of money.

Good book with basic errors

Like most other said here, this book contains a lot of errors on basic calculations like calculating the surface area of a cylinder! Also, organization of the book is very poor; referenced equations or figures are either very hard to find or nowhere to be found. Otherwise book covers a lot of good topics.
