Well organized and full of information

Current and well written with loads of personal experience blended with current research. The layout is easy to read and find what you are looking for. Plenty of resources within the book as well. I would recommend this to anyone who was considering a backpacking trip, regardless of destination. I was able to read this thanks to the people behind Story Cartel (in exchange for an honest review). I will be purchasing a copy should I decide to take my own backpacking trip.

Well Written Guide - Easy to Read and Full of Great Information

Marek has written a very detailed, comprehensive guide to backpacking across the world. It is a very comprehensive guide, yet it also reads like a story.

This is because his writing style is very personable and he skillfully weaves stories of his own experiences throughout each chapter.

This guide is very thorough, covering most every aspect you can think of (and some things you probably didn't think of) that is involved with travelling across the world with just a backpack.

Marek starts with planning your trip, discusses packing light, health and safety on your trip as well as culture and etiquette. If you are willing to learn as much as you can about the culture of each country you visit, it will make a huge difference to the your stay there. You will much more likely to be accepted by the locals when you have taken the time to learn about their culture, and that of course will also make your stay more enjoyable.

I was offered a copy of this book in return for an honest review and I found it to be an excellent guide that will definitely get you started preparing for your trip. This book is great for people like me that wouldn't know where to start if one wanted to embark in an extensive traveling experience. The book has lots of info about how to choose a destination, tips on how to get there and how to enjoy your trip. The author knows his stuff, thanks to his experiences as a traveler and as a maven of backpacking knowledge. Great read, if you are planning a long backpacking trip, then this book will definitely help you out.

This book was a must have during my Entrepreneurship class. It is a very thorough book, but for any student or person completing the exercises, it can become overwhelming and tedious. When the instructor said that we had to work certain chapter's exercises, it felt like a punishment (especially if one is not interested in owning a business in the future and the class is just a major requirement). Otherwise, for anybody expecting to learn a lot about for-profit venture creation, this is the book for you!

Had to rent this book for a class. Apart from the case studies, it's terrible. It goes on and on about how great entrepreneurship is but fails to disclose specific examples and instead points to vague numbers and facts that may or may not have something to do with entrepreneurship. At some point I could've sworn it even mentioned Apple and Microsoft as entrepreneurial companies. Sure, these companies make some (arguably) innovative products but to say two of the biggest companies in the world are entrepreneurial is simply wrong.

The book provides information, but it is really directed towards bigger businesses more so than small businesses. First, the book itself doesn't draw you in. The pages are dull and there is no color so if you need some imagery to draw you in. This is not the book! The way the chapters and sections of the book are set up is confusing and they lack focus. it's an okay book but there should be better options out there.

THIS GUY KNOWS WHERE IT'S AT!

I've been studying acting for several years and some of the jargon can get pretty 'high brow' trying to explain themselves. Michael Caine does not do that. He approaches the career of film acting from in the trenches with little diamonds of insight studded throughout. I especially like his advice to a film director when the director asked him to fall into a hole telling him that it was not dangerous. "You do it first," was Michael's reply. Fantastic. Shortly after reading Mr. Caine's book, I did a scene where I had to fall into freezing water after being shot. The director assured me that it was safe and the water held no obstacles. I gave him Michael's reply and after hemming and hawing a few minutes he sent a PA in to assure me that the water was deep enough and had no obstacles. Thank you Michael Caine! If your passion is film acting, you will get a kick out of this read. Salute!

Inspiring and straight to the point!

A great book, straight to the point! It is a book about movie acting and it will teach you exactly that - how movie acting is different from acting in the theater. Michael Cane uses a lot of vivid examples to prove his point and to give a number of priceless tips on how to improve your acting. His passion for acting is contagious and inspiring!

About the Author
Paul Halter was born in Hagenau, Alsace, in 1956. He pursued technical studies in his youth before joining the French Marines in the hope of seeing the world. Disappointed with the lack of travel, he left the military and, for a while, sold life insurance while augmenting his income playing the guitar in the local dance orchestra. Upon discovering the writings of John Dickson Carr, he gave up the guitar for the pen. He has since written over 30 novels, almost all ‘locked room,’ including ‘The Lord of Misrule,’ ‘The Fourth Door’ – which won the coveted Prix du Roman Policier in 1987, ‘The Seven Wonders of Crime’ and ‘The Demon of Dartmoor’,all available in English on Amazon and Kindle. In 2006 his collection of short stories ‘The Night of the Wolf’ appeared, to critical acclaim.

Halter is as diabolical as ever

Another highly recommended whodunit/howdunit by Paul Halter translated by John Pugmire. The premise above says enough about the actual storyline that to add anything more would probably make for spoilers. Grabbing the reader in the first chapter, Halter's lean narrative style and penchant for using dialogue whenever possible make this a novel that moves along at a brisk pace, adding bafflement upon bafflement until Dr. Twist reveals the answers. Any and every fan of the "impossible crime" story should consider Paul Halter "must" reading. Those who like to try to solve the mysteries before the detective does are advised not to take anything or anyone for granted.

Keep 'em coming, Messrs. Halter and Pugmire!

An invisible killer haunts this English village

The delicious thing about this mystery is that the killer of three pretty young barmaids, a young wife, and a handsome actor appears to be invisible. Witnesses claim an invisible push sent the victims to their deaths. People are pushed off cliffs, down stairs and out of windows. No wonder the locals are keeping an eye out for the Evil One.

There's a rocky summit over rushing waters just outside the village - a convenient spot for dispatching people. Thick fogs also beset the area - a great aid to nefarious acts. Naturally enough the village is a hotbed of superstition. The murderer makes clever use of melodramatic local legends.

It's hard to believe sometimes that Paul Halter is French; he's so good at creating an atmospheric English village and town characters to go with it.

This is one of Halter's Dr. Twist mysteries. Twist is a criminologist, good at penetrating the twisted minds and methods of murderers. He seems to enjoy tormenting his sidekick, Inspector Hurst of Scotland Yard, by not sharing theories with him until the last minute. In this he reassembles other fictional investigators of genius with their Watsons.

Twist sees the case as "more like a fairy tale than a police investigation," but he's determined to solve it logically anyway. I had my eye on the wrong suspect right till the end. The identity of the murderer was a total surprise to me.

This book deserves high marks for supernatural atmosphere, devious murder methods, convincing characters, and a dramatic denouement.

One of the great impossible crime mysteries of all time!

Halter sets the bar very very high with his creative premise-an invisible murderer! Witnesses see victims pushed to their death-by no one visible-on a number of occasions.
But despite the inherent impossibility of the murders, Halter has devised a satisfying and very, very clever solution, that next to no reader will anticipate. The author continues to impress in a genre where one would think it's all been done before. I'm deliberately, as the prior reviewer also did, refraining from any plot details beyond what's in the book description above. When you've finished this you'll want to reread it to see how brilliantly Halter pulled the wool over your eyes. One major clue was right out there, but I missed it, and I suspect I won't be alone. This is a very creepy novel, perfectly-paced. Many many thanks to John Pugmire, who has single-handedly made this wonderful mystery novelist available to an English audience. This is the quintessential one-sitting read, although, like me, you may want to take breaks to try to figure out how the killer could have done what he did, and to make this last a bit longer to lessen the gap between this and the next Halter Pugmire makes accessible. If this is your first Halter, you'll want to get the other three Pugmire has translated.

About the Author

Liz Giles-Brown is currently a physical educator for grades K-8 at South Bristol School in South Bristol, Maine. In addition to having 17 years of experience teaching K-8 physical education, she has served as physical education curriculum chairperson and provided leadership in the assessment work done by her school union. Giles-Brown has also worked on state assessment development committees and currently serves on the expert review team for the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development's (ASCD) Understanding by Design (UbD) online unit exchange.

Giles-Brown has also written two units that have been published on the Understanding by Design (UbD) Exchange and has presented numerous assessment workshops for her peers in the field of physical education. Giles-Brown is a member of American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) and Maine Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (MAHPERD). In 2004 she received the Distinguished Leadership Award in physical education curriculum, teaching, and assessment from MAHPERD, which also named her Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year in 1995.

Giles-Brown holds a master's degree in physical education, curriculum and instruction. She currently resides with her husband, Tim, and son, Chase, in West Boothbay Harbor, Maine, where she enjoys hiking, biking, boating, and skiing in her spare time.

Great Book for an Elementary Physical Education Teacher

I'm a physical education teacher and I noticed this book on another web site. The book is full of ideas for you to use for your students during class. The book breaks down the work into specific chapters from posters, to concepts to fitness goals. The best part of the book is the CD that has all of the information ready to be placed on your computer so that you don't have to recreate the forms yourself. The downside is that the CD is a little hard to use because of the way they organized it but with a little patience you can find any of the assessment tools from the pages of the book.

Another outstanding tool, have been using this book this years. Great book for organizational ideas. I would also recommend this product to all my associates.
